The Assassination of Charlie Kirk: Progressive Violence
The Progressive movement is wounded and lashing out violently. The recent assassination (attempt, we'll see if he pulls through) is a weathervane for future behavior
For those unaware, Charlie Kirk, the somewhat infamous talking head of Turning Point USA was shot on September 10th of 2025. While conditions are still developing, this particular assassination marks an inflection point in the behavior of the Progressive Left. While attempted assassinations are nothing new for the violent and bigoted progressive movement, this type of intentional attack on a figure tertiary to the current administration is indicative of desperation.
Charlie Kirk was a moderate, and this attack on him could have been aimed at any one, even political centrists that don’t submit to the vitriol of the far left.
Generally, assassination attempts have targeted either primary political targets or (usually via mental illness) insignificant political targets. The 2017 attempted mass shooting of Republican senators at a baseball pitch being one example. The multiple attempts on Donald J Trump on the campaign trail are others.

It appears that roleplaying as if it’s the 1960s and 1970s isn’t enough for some of them; now they’re trying to actually follow through on the assassinations and bombings. (I anticipate at least one or two progressive terrorist bombings at some point in the next few years.) This is what happens when they realize that they’re losing in both the cultural and political spheres. Historically, control of the media apparatus allowed the Left to downplay assassinations, murders, kidnappings, and bombings. Times, however, change. The renaissance of social media since Elon Musk bought Twitter, the election of an angry Donald Trump, and the growth of the New Right have placed the progressive Left solidly on the back foot.
In many ways, the Left has done this to itself. Threats, coercion, and implicit violence were favored methods of silencing dissenting voices since the late 1990s. When that didn’t work, appeals were made to the empathy of the community to defend their poor, oppressed interest groups at the expense of the larger society. Then those interest groups were used as a bludgeon to coerce the general population.
Intellectually, this strategy of false appeals to empathy has worked for the Progressive Left for a long time. The originators of the ideology in the 1970s became the architects of the egalitarian post-tribal world of the 90s. At that point, they were living in the End of History and believed that their way would be the only way, forever. There would never again be serious opposition to progressive religious zealotry.
2016 was a foreshock. 2020 was an awakening. 2025 might be retribution.
As a side effect of their comfortable position, the leaders of Progressivism became negligent. The leadership sought to hang onto their positions of power forever. Thus, the (admittedly very) intelligent minds that founded modern Woke progressivism sought a specific type of underling. To ensure they wouldn’t be undermined by the next generation, individuals were sought who were consistently less skilled, less competent, and less intelligent. The A-tier leadership accepted only B-tier protégés. The B-tier, once they arrived in positions of power in the late 00s and early 2010s after “waiting their turn,” sought only C-tier supporters.

Negligence became decadence, and that became ruin. From the 90s through to 2020 or so, the Progressive movement had a stranglehold on the media sufficient to generate artificial consensus at the national scale. They encouraged the general population to accept a nation in managed decline. To say that “yes, we really do have to live like this, there’s no other choice.” The results were dim for the next generation. Even those who managed to claw themselves out of the collective were intentionally excluded from the halls of power.
The Progressive Left, through exclusion, implicit violence, economic banishment, and false appeals to pathological empathy, managed to hold onto power for a long time. Things didn’t begin to change until people were able to compare notes in the public square. What started in the cantankerous underbelly of the internet on 4chan 10 years ago has broken into the public perception.
Oddly enough, it was the “true victory” of progressivism that led to its annihilation. The 2020 “January 6th riot” effectively killed the boomer-con Right. Eviscerated it in the public eye and doomed it to ignoble defeat. The Progressive Left and the Democratic Party were (it seems) entirely clueless that the boomer-con Right was the only thing keeping the young and vital New Right from breaking into public discourse.
The riots, lockdowns, mandates, threats, and economic sanctions from 2020 and 2024 did the rest. In their mad dash to the finish, the Marxists tripped.
Imagine this from the perspective of a progressive. The progressive has a low IQ and believes what they see on the news and in their curated far-left social media feed. They’ve just won. They’ve finally defeated the old Luddite boomer-Christians from the 1950s. There’s no opposition anywhere except for some silly anti-vaxers and a few protestors here and there, whom they are assured are irrelevant “fascist nazis.”
Then Elon Musk buys Xitter. Then half their followers vanish. Then, suddenly, the public narrative shifts from “It’s okay, we understand you’re special, so we won’t report on your silly little mistakes,” to international media companies stating, “These violent, murderous monsters attacking our families must be brought to justice. Now.”
Suddenly, the public mood shifts. “You have to have empathy for these poor oppressed people,” ceases to work. The response from the New Right is stone-faced resolve in the confrontation of objective evil. For the lying Progressive Left, it must be terrifying for your old tools of domination to completely fail all at once with no apparent warning. To them, whose entire zealous certainty is built on public consensus, it really does feel like their world is ending.
It turns out, we DON’T have to live like this.
The Progressive Left has been caught in a trap of its own making. Like a rat having climbed onto a plank only to be dropped into a bucket with no exit. They’re lashing out, violently, at anyone and everyone.
A premeditated assassination attempt on a tertiary figure means that at this point, anyone who can be associated directly or indirectly with their enemies is “fair game.” Charlie Kirk was a moderate figure of the right. Very moderate. The bullet that took his life may well have been aimed at any Republican or right-of-center centrist with the same vitriol with which it was aimed at him.
Give a lecture at a university that progressives disagree with? They may try to kill you.
Wear a hat they don’t like? They may try to kill you.
Be a white conservative and protect an innocent bystander from violence? Prison.
Be a pretty white girl on a bus? Guess who’s going to defend your attacker?
The evil of the progressive left is all that remains of their former political relevance. They have some grip on the narrative. They have some remaining voters in their hard blue strongholds, but even those supporters are quietly wavering.
Of course, like any wounded animal, they’ll attempt to use the last authority from which all other authority is derived. Violence.
The Right hasn’t won yet, and the Left is in cultural retreat, but they still have violence, insanity, and an inability to distinguish their fantasies from reality. It is a tool of desperation as the true believers of progressivism are now the C-tier students who ejected the productive demographics from their halls of power. They aren’t skilled debaters. They aren’t brilliant power-brokers. They aren’t philosophers. They have only ideology, coercion, zealotry, and violence. That might be enough. If they could win another election or two, and then use the power of the state to crush anyone who publicly opposed them, they might cling onto power for another generation.
I don’t know if they’ll succeed or fail in clawing a cultural victory back from the brink, but they are more than willing to try. As they say, “by any means necessary.” Those of us on the New Right need to be careful. You may be targeted, especially if you’re a public figure. They know they can’t win with words. They know they can’t win with narrative control. They also consider murder to be a morally acceptable (as long as it’s an “ontologically bad person” whom they attack).

If we don’t stamp them out of existence, unlike what was done in the 60s and 70s, our great, great grandchildren will have to deal with the same stupidity again.
